"I want people to get away from all the things that are inside of them and refresh themselves", said Shuhou Ohta, Deputy priest of Fukuseiji Temple, a host, who provided experience at MICHISHIRUBE.

Fukuseiji Temple stands near the top of a mountain about 500 meters above sea level, about a 10-minute drive from Higashi-Hiroshima Station. In spring, the temple grounds are decorated with rhododendron flowers, making it famous as "Rhododendron Temple."

“I loved this temple and this place," he said and explaining why he became the Deputy Chief Priest.
However, Mr. Ota was not actually a native of this temple.　
He was married to the daughter of head priest of Fukuseiji temple.
As helping with work in mountains around the temple, which made him more and more attracted to the charm of this place.

Fukuseiji Temple, located on top of the mountain, must have been a Shugendō temple. The temple was visited by monks who practiced asceticism in the mountains with the aim of attaining enlightenment.

Mr. Ota told us a story about water, saying that there are things that we cannot feel in our daily lives because this place is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

"If you put water in a container on a boat, vibration of the boat will not cause the water to rot. On the contrary, water that is dammed up and accumulates will stagnate and rot.“

Mr. Ota said that this story has something in common with human beings. When people become stiff, they stop.
That is why it is the role of mountain temples to provide time to circulate, to shake, and to put oneself in unusual places.

The experiences that MICHISHIRUBE offers are unique to temples, such as meditating and reading sutras while learning a breathing technique called "Ajikan.
